DIY: Healthy Dog Treats & Happy Puppies!

It's a good that there is no such thing as a crazy dog lady... because I really don't think I'd be the only one! I'm extremely careful about what I feed my dogs and not just with food, but with treats as well. You really do have to be careful because there is a constant stream of recalls and so many of the brands you buy at the store have fillers or harmful chemicals. So recently I decided to make my pups some homemade treats myself. The benefits far out way the time it takes to make them.

The major pluses of homemade dog treats for me are:
A) I know exactly what I'm giving them.
B) I'm not spending $15.00 for a bag of fancy dog treats.
C) My dogs love them!

This is My Recipe for
DYI Dog Treats:
• Oatmeal 2 cups
• Peeled Sweet Potato 1 Medium
• Canned Pumpkin (Unsweetened) 1/4 Cup
• No Sugar Added Apple Sauce 1/4 Cup
• 2 Eggs

1) Pierce sweet potato with a fork and place in the microwave on "baked potato" setting. While the potato is cooking you can prep all the other ingredients.
2)Use a blender to blend oatmeal into a flour like consistency. Then place oat flour into a mixing bowl.
3) Add applesauce, pumpkin, and eggs to bowl.

4) Once the sweet potato is soft cut into small pieces and place it into bowl.
(Somehow Miss Molly Valentine always knows what I'm up to!)
5) Mix and mash ingredients with a fork untill you get a dough like consistency.
Tip: Mixture doesn't need to be perfectly smooth.
6) Spray or line a baking sheet, place 1" to 2"  balls of dough onto your pan.
7) Use a fork to slightly flatten and mark each cookie. The same way you would with peanut butter cookies.
(Waiting is always the hardest part for Molly.)
Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
9) Once the cookies are done remove from pan and let them cool.
10) Let your pups enjoy!
This Recipe makes about two dozen cookies.
Store in the refrigerator for 7-10 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.

Recipe Variations or Substitutions:
• Swap the Sweet Potato and Pumpkin for Banana and All Natural Peanut Butter
• Swap the Oatmeal for Rice Flour
